Estate Planning (Living Trusts, Wills)

Susan B. Geffen provides estate planning services in conjunction with elder law and elder care planning for clients throughout the South Bay, Los Angeles County and Southern California. Her background as an elder law professor at Loyola Law School and her Master’s degree in Gerontology from U.S.C. give her a unique set of tools for developing a comprehensive estate plan that takes all of your needs and concerns into account.

Susan provides a variety of services, including:
Wills and Trusts:

Wills and Trusts are legal instruments that you can use to direct who will receive your estate and how they will receive it. Without a Will or Trust, your estate will be distributed according to the California’s probate statutes and the fees will be taken from of your estate, which typically takes several months.

Powers of Attorney:

when you create a power of attorney, you designate a trusted individual to make medical and financial decisions for you in case you become unable to make those decisions for yourself. Often, spouses name each other in powers of attorney.

Advance Health Care Directives:

also called a “living will,” an advance health care directive gives instructions for your family and doctor to follow in case you ever fall into a persistent vegetative state or other situation where you are unable to make your own health care decisions. It lets your physician, family and friends know your health care preferences, including the types of special treatment you want or don’t want at the end of life, your desire for diagnostic testing, surgical procedures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and organ donation.

By considering your options early, you can ensure the quality of life that is important to you and avoid having your family “guess” your wishes or having to make critical medical care decisions for you under stress or in emotional turmoil.
